How to export your Google Health (Fitbit) data

Fitbit is now part of Google Health, but export still runs through Google Takeout — the archive category is still labelled Fitbit. Here's how to get yours, and what to expect from historical data.

Can you export this data?

Yes. Google Takeout can produce a complete archive of your Fitbit / Google Health data — steps, heart rate, sleep and workouts — as a ZIP containing JSON and CSV files.

Step-by-step

  1. 1Open takeout.google.com in a browser and sign in with the Google account tied to your Fitbit / Google Health.
  2. 2Click Deselect all, then scroll to find Fitbit and tick it. (The category is still labelled Fitbit even though the product is now Google Health.)
  3. 3Choose your file type, delivery method and archive size, then click Create export.
  4. 4Google prepares the archive and emails you when it's ready — this can take from minutes to a day depending on account size.
  5. 5Download the ZIP.

What’s in the file

The Takeout archive is a ZIP of nested folders — one per data type — containing JSON and CSV files with timestamps. Everyday numbers like steps, heart rate and sleep are all there.

What Baseline does with it

Once the Google Health parser ships, Baseline will use your steps, resting HR, HRV and sleep as recovery context alongside your rowing data. Some legacy Fitbit detail (older HRV / sleep-stage history) was removed by Google during the Fitbit → Google Health migration in mid-2026, so historic data may be shallower than what your live account is producing today.

Common issues

  • The Fitbit category in Takeout can look large — that's expected. You can select a smaller time range if you only need recent data.
  • Google occasionally reorganises the folder structure inside the archive. Baseline auto-detects the layout so you don't need to worry about it.
  • If your Fitbit account was fully migrated to Google Health in 2026, some pre-migration detail may be missing from the export. Baseline flags any gaps rather than filling them in.

Privacy note

Your Google Health / Fitbit export can contain sleep, HR and location data. Baseline stores it inside your private workspace only, and the AI layer sees structured summaries — never raw records.

Frequently asked

Does the export still say Fitbit even though the product is now Google Health?
Yes. Google Takeout kept the Fitbit label. Tick that box — that's your Google Health data.
What about the Fitbit-to-Google migration deletions?
During the 2026 migration, Google deleted some legacy detail (particularly older HRV and sleep-stage history) that wasn't carried into Google Health. Your day-to-day steps, HR and sleep are still there.
Do I need a Pixel Watch?
No. Any Fitbit / Google Health account can export the same way, regardless of the device it came from.
